Devon Palermo is the SUPERIOR MOTIVATOR leader of the DPI Adaptive Fitness trainer team. Devon has truly been a friend and tremendous influence in motivating me to excel beyond my own mental limitations resulting from my spinal cord injury, incomplete C-4 Asia 30, on 2/17/2013. From our first meeting on January 1, 2014, he crafted my individual exercise program which helped me develop tremendous leg strength to better work with physical therapists in my efforts to stand and walk with the assistance of platform and standard walkers. Through weekly personal sessions, he helped me develop core strength and control to improve my arms, shoulders and upper back muscles. Devon’s individual program helped me improve physically and stay mentally healthy to perform my job as the Senior Land-Use Attorney for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command HQ Office of Counsel. Devon has been instrumental in my maintaining a positive attitude to excel in my progressive recovery, not merely to endure life with my physical limitations. All DPI trainers provide positive feedback and encouragement embracing the joy of movement during workout sessions.

I've been working out 4-6 times a week w/ Devon, Robby, Marquis and other staff for 9 months of this pandemic. As a power wheelchair rider it's difficult to find a FITNESS program. I need a GYM to maintain good health not PT& OT rehabilitation altho' the professionals associated w/ this adaptive fitness gym can offer that, too, as they are PTs or soon to be licensed Pls. It's also wonderful that these classes can be held via zoom. One less car trip to make. See you at DPI Adaptive Fitness!

In the fall of 2018 I ran into a friend that I knew from a past MS support group. She told me about an exercise class that she was attending specifically for MS patients on Monday evenings. Even though the class was a bit farther than I would ordinarily drive during rush hour I decided to give it a try, particularly because the class is free. And I sure could use some exercise! I have MS and I had back surgery in March 2018. At that time I was going to physical therapy twice a week and had hit a plateau. I decided to give this class a try. Keep Moving With Emily is a wonderful class with a fantastic instructor. Emily knows what she’s doing. Since DPI also has other classes I decided to sign up for the Balance and Core class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. (There is a charge for these classes.) Devon Palermo is our instructor. He and his staff are experts about how to work with clients with the challenges that we have. Every one of the staff is well training and cares so much about each and every participant. We get some tough workouts but never more than we can safely do. I am so grateful that my friend told me about DPI. I enjoy the workouts, the music, and especially the staff. The gym is clean and well maintained. Always a pleasure to go there; it’s fun! I’ve made much needed progress and hope to continue to improve. I’m signed up for months in the future!

DPI Adaptive Fitness helps! In my case, Pablo is very intuitive about the human body. He helped me learn how to walk with a decent gait, that I am still perfecting. The free sessions on Saturdays at DPI great, and now the internet is allowing them to continue through this time.

Following an anoxic brain injury and 1.5 years of intense Physical Therapy, I had the extremely good fortune of finding my way to DPI. Devon and his team are caring, knowledgeable, inspirational trainers. They don’t make promises about your recovery that they can’t keep, but they do push you to achieve your highest level of recovery. When I consider the progress I have made on their watch, first I am stunned, and second I am so incredibly thankful that DPI is a part of my team.

I have never followed an exercise program. After several failed workout attempts at my local gyms l feared my fitness goals were unrealistic. Everything changed when I met Devon at the 2015 abilities Expo where I tried an Adaptive Boxing Fitness class which I loved. After speaking with Devon I realized my disability wouldn't be a barrier anymore. I started attending Devon Palermo’s, Adaptive Boxing Fitness and Open Gym classes sponsored by the MedStar-National Rehabilitation Hospital in December 2015 and never stopped. In fact, I was so excited about my progress that in July of 2016 I started working with Robby my Adaptive Fitness trainer. He challenges me to work hard and I continue to see positive results.
