This office has poor billing practices. My insurance company pays 100% for a yearly physical as preventative care. Unfortunately, at this practice if you mention any problem when you’re with the Dr., they will add on an office visit and charge you a copay in addition to whatever they charge your insurance company. For example, if you mention a skin tag and the Dr looks at it, then determines that it is completely benign from a visual inspection, you’ve just bought yourself an office visit. I called and spoke with an employee in billing about this. I was told that if the Dr. writes it down, you’re going to be billed. I researched this and found they were not following the correct policy. The guidance states “an insignificant or trivial problem/abnormality that is encountered in the process of performing the preventative medicine evaluation and management service and which does not require additional work and the performance of the key components of a problem-oriented E/M service should not be reported”. Of the 3 issues I addressed with the Dr., 1 is being treated by a specialist and the other 2 were dismissed immediately as insignificant and none required further monitoring, testing, follow up visits, etc. Do yourself a favor and go see another Dr. We loose millions of dollars a year because of incorrect billing. Force them to be accountable and hire competent billing staff. It’s unfortunate, I liked the Dr. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere now.
