Built in the 1840s by the Connecticut and Passumpsic Rivers Railroad Company, it provided railroad service along the Connecticut River. A third of it's space served as a lobby and passenger waiting area, with the rest used as freight storage. In 1870 operation of the railway was taken over by the Boston and Main Corporation (B&M), which used the depot until 1972.
