Surprisingly fun short stop! Most people just pop in to use to toilet on the drive down 50, but there are a couple short hikes to see petroglyphs in the area. The glyphs are right along the trail, so be careful of impacting them. The glyphs are a mystery, but seem to go back to a time when water filled much of the area. Great informative signage. The area had 5 shaded picnic tables too.

Petroglyphs abound and some are thousands of years old. Very few people. Bring your camera. The tour is self guided. Take your time. Several trails are available. There is a restroom and a covered area for eating your lunch. We have taken numerous visitors to Grimes Point.
Everything I've ever wanted to see at a historic archeological site! Picnic tables are available for lunch or a snack. The petroglyphs are highly intriguing. The Hidden Cave area is more of an advanced and farther hike than the petroglyph area. Water is a must for this area. I can hardly wait to take my grandsons back. -Regina
Like hide and seek for rocks! Great place to take your little ones on an adventure. A few trails and caves a bit beyond
Pretty cool to see, nice trails and short hikes. Has descriptions at most Petroglyph sites.. The hidden cave was closed with a locked door, you have to go during the free tours I believe. Little bigger of a hike to the Caves.
Easy hike. Right off road. Lots of petroglyph to find, just look, they are everywhere. Plus you get to watch the jets land at the naval base.
Grimes Point Archaeological Area is a great place to visit if near Fallon or on a road trip through the Nevada desert. This area has a short petroglyph trail with multiple rocks with petroglyph carvings, as well as a longer trail to the top of a hill with a view. About a half mile away down a dirt road is also another loop trail with some historical cave inlets and great scenery.
My kids and I enjoyed this trail immensely. It was a gentle easy trail to follow and we had fun looking for the petroglyphs! Great informative markers along the trail and the facility was relatively clean.
