Today I called Flute World and spoke with Bill. The reason I called was because I had a used Hammig piccolo on trial from a well know “center” and they were unable to give me a definitive answer to my questions with respect to the type of springs found in those piccolos. After being on hold for one minute, Bill was able to confirm that Hammig piccolos use steel springs (and not the white gold as falsely advertised by the established company that sent the piccolo out for trial). He even answered my question about the difference in Hammig cases. Bill’s kind demeanor and depth of knowledge is the reason for this review. Because of him, I will ONLY be using Flute World for any and all of my musical needs.

This store use to be great. It was a place where music was celebrated. Things are now very different in the hands of new managment. They still enjoy their jobs, but just not the music it seems. They enjoy taking advantage of our love of playing by over charging for repairs, and using our trust against us as players. They will question your integrity once you start to outpace them, and are no longer above spreading malicious lies to try to keep you down. If they start to judge you here, you must be doing something right. There are plenty of options in Metro Detroit for flute repair.

The place every flutist should visit in their life. As a father of a flutist, I enjoyed my daughter try out flutes and as the wand chooses the wizard, the flute chooses the flutist. They didn't tell her what flutes she was playing and asked for comments. Mixed them up and had her try them again with another piece and etudes. The same flute was too and the next several stood above the others. Took the flutes home for a week and the same flute emerged. Great prices, not pushy, very supportive. Flute center of New York and flute world are the best in the country. Flash to be in their area.

I went to Flute World this past weekend. I live about 2.5 hours away, so this isn't a trip I get to make often. First of all, I walked in and was greeted by shelves and shelves of music and accessories. Omg. I was so happy! THEN, I walked upstairs to the Pearl exhibit. So, I was blown away by how many instruments were there available to try AND THEN Bill (I can't recall his last name - sorry!) came up to say hello, see what we were looking at. At that point, I told him I recently bought a Yamaha 687, and wasn't really looking, but I'd always been curious about the tonal differences between gold and silver. I learned SO much that day. He brought out several flutes with lots of different configurations and brands for me to compare. Turns out, I'm not a huge fan of a fully gold flute. Not my thing... but it was great because I did learn what flute I would lean towards next, and I learned a lot about the idea of upgrading my headjoint in the future. And the best part was that I wasn't being sold... he genuinely wanted to teach me something, which I can absolutely appreciate. I work in music industry sales, and it was refreshing that he genuinely cared that I learned something that day instead of brushing me off because I wasn't buying or trying to push me to buy on a day I wasn't prepared to. I can honestly say this was the best experience I've had as a customer in a music store. I also want to add that I've been buying from their online store since I was a teenager and I've always, always, always been happy with the service. If I could give this company more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. Keep up the great work, guys, and when I am ready to spring for a new instrument, you'll be my go-to, no questions asked!
