Wonderful place filled with treasures interesting a great selection of books to look at and copy many antique photos books can not be checked out but you can come in and read for as long as they are open. There cute gifts to be purchased little souvenirs and ornaments. From antique underwear bloomers shifts and petticoats to bells off of fire engines and even a civil war peg leg the Fayette historical society is filled with many treasures. Striving to preserve the past to gain a better future this building previously the Margret Mitchell library. The new library is just across the street and back a bit. The building was named after Margret Mitchell the author of the popular southern novel gone with the wind a tale of stubborn women who wont give up before during and after the civil war. She donated many of her texts that she used for research, which is why they named it after her. Now the Fayette historical society. Check out this cute little building full of historical artifacts and documents. The friendly volunteers are happy to answer questions or just sit and chat. Donations are gladly accepted. If you have historical documents feel free to loan them so that they can be put on display or in paper format can be scanned and returned to you.
