I didn’t think it would be all that impressive, but boy was I wrong. We ended up camping along the rim. Very beautiful and peaceful. I went in and out two different ways. Google takes has you pull off the highway and go past the Outback Station or you can turn off closer to LaPine where the Hole in the Ground sign is and travel on a somewhat maintained road. With either route as you get closer to the hole it turns into an unmaintained dirt road, I would recommend a somewhat higher clearance vehicle like a Subaru and up.

wanted to drive down to the bottom as so many had. Takes a degree of confidence, 4x4 your proficient with and a co-pilot who enjoys the thrill enough to let you do it. (wife put the brakes on it)
Geological wonder! Must see. Road very rocky but do-able in x-overs, suvs
