I took my straight razor to Rod for sharpening. It only took 10 minutes and I was happy with how sharp the blade was and I look forward to have my first shave with it. The price was 20 which I think is reasonable (I had never had anything sharpened before so I really don’t know what the market price is). Rod was very polite and helpful and made accommodations to see me in very short notice. However when I got the straight razor back, there was clear and somewhat extensive damage to the spine of the blade and it was clearly showing because the blade was Damascus steel and the pattern is ruined. Rod mentioned something about “because it’s made in China” and I’m paraphrasing because I could not hear very well considering the garage door was separating us (social distancing). I mentioned that the blade was handmade and made in USA. I purchased it from a small business much like Rods. If Rod’s business was a larger business, I certainly would’ve asked for the price of the blade or a replacement but honestly I don’t and didn’t want to cause any financial burden on a small business specially during a pandemic. Update: Thank you for addressing my review Mr. Rod. As I mentioned, I am happy with the sharpening and there’s no need for a refund :) as I mentioned I don’t know much about sharpening but based on the research I did before I come see you, you’re supposed to put a tape on the spine to protect it from exactly what happened. Again, I’m not asking for a refund or any other form of compensation :) I already ordered a new blade identical to the one you sharpened. Once it arrives, I’ll bring it to you for sharpening again and we can move on.

Pros: Very nice and friendly people. Extremely quick service. Good price. Cons: This is not a professional sharpening service. This is not a sharpening service at all since blades were returned peaty blunt.
Rod's Sharpening Service was affordable and easy to use! I had to make an appointment ahead of time due to the pandemic, but Liz answered all of my emails quickly. The process went smoothly-I dropped my knives at 9:30 and they were done before 10am! Payment was easy and there was a contactless drop and pick for my knives. I got home and used my knives immediately to chop onions and meat-it took no time at all thanks to my newly sharpened knives. I can't wait to meal prep this weekend! :) Thank you so much for a job well done!
I took one pair of garden shears and two pairs of sewing scissors To get sharpened it only took him about 15 minutes to sharpen all the tools, To me that seems kind of fast for a sharpening service. Garden shears seemed fine at first but after about a week of use They were dull again the sewing scissors never seem to be any better at all very disappointed in the service.
Appalling service. I work as a licensed cosmetologist, hence my shears are a incredibly important tool for me. The time had come where my shears had become dull and I was in need of someone to sharpen them. I had gotten them sharpened by Rod, which would prove to be a terrible idea. He ended up BREAKING my shears which was devastating. He provided a pair for free while also requiring that I pay for the sharpening service. The pair he gave me are so incredibly dull and make it impossible for me to do my job. The pair he broke cost well over 100 while the pair he gave me for free are comparable to walmart craft shears. I am absolutely devastated and will NEVER utilize his services ever again.
