An amazing way to take in a National Park is to drive the 105 miles known as Skyline Drive in the park. Also, the trails are for everyone with easy trails that are great for beginners, kids, and people just wanting 1-1.5 miles or less. For those who live for the “AT”, you can connect to several trails that run through the park. Most of the park’s support facilities are open in March with the rest opening in April. Enjoy!

We struggled a little bit following directions to the Front Royal entrance, but we finally got it. We started our hike around 7am. It was absolutely gorgeous and the weather was perfect. I highly suggest hitting the trails before or around 7am, as it gets very crowded around 9am (we went in September, so that probably also plays a factor).

One of my favorite places to visit! Enjoyed hiking the entire length of the A.T. from Waynesboro to Front Royal.

Skyline drive alone is a long windy road with many overlooks to park your car and enjoy the scenery. If you’re into hiking, there a subtle parking lots as you drive by which lead to various trails with easy to harder difficulty. If this sounds appealing to you, I would recommend getting an annual pass and you will still find something new to do every time you visit.

A beautiful drive, stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley. One of the great long drives that is Skyline Drive. Give yourself enough time to really enjoy this drive, take a picnic or stop and admire one of the many scenic overlooks. Takes close to 4 hrs to complete the whole section. So fill up your car, get going , windows down and take it all you can.
