If you want to learn the art and science of guitar repairs and building custom guitars, this is the school to attend. Chris and his staff of Luthiers are the best of the best. Great importance to detail and the quest for perfection in building and repairing guitars is their ethos. In addition, the Custom Vibrations shop is amazing. All equipment and tools are there to build or repair any stringed instrument. If you are serious about learning the craft, this is the place to learn it!

Best guitar tech in the greater Columbia area. Chris can fix anything and has an attention to detail unlike other techs I’ve dealt with. I’ve tried several before him but none of them were as thorough or as capable, and I’ve never had a bad experience with him.

I am currently on my last week of taking Custom Vibrations’ lutherie class. My decision to take the class is probably the best one that I’ve ever made. Chris is a great teacher, and a fantastic guy in general. He knows everything there is to know about lutherie and his repair skills are incredible. I absolutely recommend his class and services 100%

Chris has an excellent attention to detail. I would almost put it close to ocd. He will sit and remake a nut or saddle, or bridges for those that have broken just to make sure it is perfect on every level. Quality control is a must in repair work and building and he definitely has it. 100% recommend getting work done there if you live in the area or are on tour and need a fix done while you are in town.

Came to this class thinking I knew a decent amount about guitars(set ups, repairs, building, etc.) and that it would be easy for me but boy was I wrong! I was shown so much and learned such a vast amount of proper techniques, problem solving, do’s and don’ts, and knowledge that it gave me the confidence to trouble shoot problems on my own and figure out the proper procedure and/or crate my own unique ways to either solve whatever problem or frustration is in front of me, or to develop “good luthier instincts” with knowing what will work and what will not as well as bringing original ideas and creativity to any process of building or repair your doing. Chris is a super down to earth guy who definitely appears more “friendly” then “teacherly” which is something I appreciate when it comes to learning a new trade from the beginning. Chris always stayed positive and was a great mentor and instructor! The best thing about him is he doesn’t tell you “No” or that he doesn’t think you should do something. He tells you that you can do it but just think about your time management and if you think it would be the best thing in the time allotted. I had a specific vision for the guitar I was going to build and Chris helped me achieve it even tho it did take longer then normal. I am very happy and satisfied with the work I did under his supervision. Other then having one of the funnest times in my life building in this class and wishing I was still there! I will miss it and if anyone is reading this....You will not regret going to this class! Was going to go somewhere else at first but chose to attend this school instead and i am 100% glad I decided Custom Vibrations! Made 2 amazing guitars, and made an amazing freind! Thanks for everything Chris and I’ll see you soon bud!

My brother referred me to Custom Vibrations a few weeks ago. Ive brought in a few guitars so far, and I could not be happier with his level of quality and craftsmanship. Chris is a very great guy to do business with. He goes above and beyond what most music stores around here do when doing repairs and custom work. Chris has true passion and puts his heart into his work. Very reasonable pricing as well.I also got my instruments back in a timely manner.. In a nutshell, As long as Custom Vibrations is in business , I will never need to shop around for a guitar tech/repair man again. Chris is officially my "go to" guy!!

I recently had a couple of guitars in need of repair. I found Custom Vibrations on line and brought them in. There were several problems I couldn't figure out. Chris quickly diagnosed the issues and gave me a very reasonable quote to fix them. When I went to pick them up I couldn't have been happier with the repair work. Both guitars are playing great and look like they did when I bought them. I have had repair work done at music stores before but I'm not sure the problems were ever completely fixed and their knowledge seemed limited in comparison. I would recommend anyone in need of guitar work in the Columbia area talk to Chris before taking your instrument anywhere else.

I completed Chris Brinson's luthiery school last year. In this class, you will gain solid Luthiery skills from one of the best luthiers in South Carolina. You will also walk away with a one of a kind stringed instrument. As a result of the knowledge gained from Chris Brinson's class, I am now able to own and operate my own guitar repair shop. If you're thinking about attending luthiery school, this is the one for you.
