GDH is a village. There is no downtown. Property taxes are the *highest* in DuPage county. Parkway landscaping and easement areas are poorly maintained. Parks are sparse. Many properties are neglected and unsightly which lowers value of surrounding properties. There is also a fee one needs to pay just to move out. Police and fire departments are well funded. Mayor is ineffective and over time has employed many of her own family members to the village staff. GDH citizens continue to vote her back in for some reason.

I have not had problems with the offices. Friendly whenever I’ve had to purchase auto and pet licenses. Very helpful with Garage sale and fence permits. Be warned that permits are needed for everything. So far I like the school set up too. We have the younger kids (K-3rd) at one school which helps keep activities at age appropriate levels reduces exposure to older kids behavior and language. Lost a star on my sister in law’s behalf. If every owner has to get permits before permitted to sell a home then Glendale Heights needs to be through and make sure house has followed steps prior to the new owner. It is should NOT be the new owners financial responsibility to fix something the Glendale Heights inspectors miss.
