Billing Department mostly consists of good people, but their practices of sending multiple bills in the mail (that has been delayed for several months now, by the way) is obsolete and is designed to hurt clients of the hospital. I received multiple bills in the mail with different amounts; I paid them all with the exception of one that I missed. And boy, did they jump all over collections on that one! Mind you, I am raising a baby during a pandemic, but why should that matter? No cooperation or any extra effort from anyone in the Billing Department to help people more than usual in these difficult times. The supervisor I spoke to today sounded like a corporate drone whose only purpose in this life is to make the hospital money, and all at the expense of the \little people.\ Next time I'm in labor/dying/dead, I will be traveling to Gettysburg or York- just to avoid the headache that is UPMC's billing department. Such a shame because the Maternity nursing staff were fantastic. It's little things like this that encourage local people to go elsewhere. Can't wait to get these people out of my life forever! *****Judging by previous 1-star reviews, this has been an ongoing issue in billing for at least a year. How disappointing is it that a literal HOSPITAL can't get their acts together over a common goal, like client care? What a waste of dollars.

It seems that my last review was deleted or flagged, so I’m reposting. This time, I’ll be taking a picture in case it disappears again. One of the biggest issues at this hospital seems to be with the billing department. Their billing practices there are obsolete and disorganized. They will send multiple bills in the mail for different amounts, because they can’t combine bills even though this is easier and more convenient for the client. So after the birth of my child and inpatient hospitalization for five days due to labor complications, I received countless bills in the mail for different amounts. I took care of them all except for one, which I admittedly missed and was promptly reported to collections. No warning that the amount was in pre-collections and no opportunity to add the amount to my payment plan; they forwarded the account to the collection agency on January 15th, yet the letter notifying me of this was dated for January 18th. It seems like they can’t even keep track of their own work and as a result, the client suffers in the end. Talked to the supervisor today. No apology for the confusion, no offer to make it better. It’s been sent to collections so there’s nothing we can do. How are people supposed to keep track of thousands upon thousands of dollars of medical bills in the a) midst of a pandemic, and b) in the midst of a pretty serious mail delay? These practices at unethical and are in desperate need of improvement. There is a reason why this hospital has a poor reputation within its own community; this is just one of those reasons.
Their staff is very friendly, however, their friendliness doesn’t make up for what they lack in medical knowledge, ability and commitment. Especially towards elderly patients. It seems once someone gets old, their effort towards finding the CAUSE of the ailment significantly diminishes. They simply want to put a “bandaid” on it and call it a day.
The second shift nurses and charge nurse were very rude and insensitive. The first shift girls were amazing. I don't know how you can go from an amazing staff for first and complete train wreck for second! Very sad!!
This is just a review for a few nurses in maternity- not Hanover Hospital as a whole. A few of the nurses that were assigned to my son and I from 11/19-11/21 and 11/29-12/5 were very kind. They took good medical care of my newborn and also took the extra time to try and emotionally support my husband and myself as concerned first time parents. Thank you especially to Rita, Alex, Rachael, Colleen, and Brenna for being so kind and caring.
