This bridge connects the East hartford and Hartford sides of the Connecticut River park's southern edges. The Charter Oak Landing and Riverside Park on the Hartford side with the Great River Park on the East Hartford Side. There are sloping ramps to access via bicycle or stairs to access via jogging. Very wide protected sidewalk alongside the southwestern bound traffic of routes 5/15. Excellent views of the Hartford city Skyline with a couple of holes cut out of the fence, perfect for a camera lense to fit through. Using this bridge you can do a complete loop of the river parks via the more northern Founders Bridge or Bulkeley Bridge. Occasionally atv's, scooters, dirt bikes, and other motorized vehicles use this sidewalk so just be aware.

The bridge is a great way across the river. Years ago, before Connecticut had an income tax, we had tolls and to use this bridge, you had to pay a toll to go across the bridge. It was a shorter and faster way to get from one place to another if you needed to get to the other side of the Connecticut River, especially to certain areas. Today, we have an income tax, but No Tolls. The bridge provides a fairly decent view of the area as you drive over it. . You can actually walk across this bridge as well, although I have only driven across. I can't comment on the view while walking on it as I have not done it myself. This bridge is part of Route 5 and connects Hartford and East Hartford. The downside would be the fact that it does get a little congested at times (end of day work commuters) and there is often a towing company that will have a truck parked on it during those times.

It's cool that you can walk on the bridge to the other side of the Connecticut River but the safety fence is so high and tight that you can not really enjoy the panoramic view of Hartford. I wish the fence have at least some kind of window or bigger gaps.

Nice bridge for walking across from East Hartford to the capital city. Also connects to parks and plazas. Can get really congested with traffic during rush hour though.
