I worked here for several months this year, it is a beautiful place for photos as well. I never went to the recreation area, but I had seen plenty of people heading in there regularly so it must be a pretty cool little gem. On top of an old friend of mine who would fish there every couple of weekends or so, and no he didn't report catching any three eyed fish. Cool to check out in person.

Came for the humming green glow. Stayed for the Chernoble-like mutants.

I spent 23 years in the nuclear part of the electric generating industry. I am as pro-nuclear as it's possible to be. But I also remember reading the NRC reports from this place. It was by far the most incredibly mismanaged nuclear plant in the United States. So much so that it was a genuine hazard to the people in the area. Duke Energy made an offer to buy this place, and they could have turned it around. I don't think I ever heard what happened to that offer. But since they wouldn't/couldn't sell it to Duke, decommissioning was the next best choice.
