Beautiful view of the dunes. Litter around to place due to lack of trash cans.

Didn’t get to visit but FYI highway 40 Southbound to this overlook is closed to non-residential, non-commercial vehicles via a COVID checkpoint (presumably to reduce COVID exposure to the Native American population that live here). If you’re visiting Badlands NP during Covid, take another route in!

Really crazy view of the Badlands within (relatively) easy striking distance from Custer/Wind Cave. A great place for otherworldly photos, especially at sunset. Also a decent place to do a little stargazing if you have a blanket or a pickup truck bed ; )

This is an absolutely amazing viewpoint that is well worth the drive to get there. Red Shirt Table is one of the most impressive and beautiful places in Badlands National Park that sits right next to a major road about halfway between Rapid City and Pine Ridge. The entire South Unit of Badlands National Park is very impressive, and is well worth seeing. The South Unit only receives only a very small fraction of the visitors the North Unit receives each year. If you want an amazing backcountry experience in a national park where few people travel to, then the South Unit of Badlands National Park is definitely worth seeing. I would highly recommend exploring the Red Shirt Table and Sheep Table Mountain areas of the park. The South Unit also offers an opportunity for people to learn more about Lakota culture and history, since much of the national park in the south borders the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Out of nowhere the badlands are visible. Absolutely gorgeous! One of the local Lakota women sells hand-made jewelry. Definitely worth stopping.

It's a massive thing to behold. It's no Grand canyon, but it's worth the detour off the main highway.
