Ample parking, wide variety of comfort food. Also foods for vegetarians, weight watchers, and those who want a refreshing drink or come in starving! Plenty of seating. Some of the best chicken tenders in Hickory. Family oriented, with a special for children on Wednesday nights. You control the price by your selections, but with everything so good. ..it is easy to get carried away! Then they cheerfully provide a take home box if you want. Another shopping break!

Good food that's a pleasurable difference from the usual chain restaurants. Great salad options and desert plates. Very friendly staff. Recommend for good FILLING food that's the next best thing to home cooking. Parking more than ample. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is that it's a bit pricey.
I was in Hickory today for the first time in awhile and noticed that J&S Cafeteria building was gone. My first thought was WOW they finally went under! After doing some research online I read a news article online about their closing. It said they decided to change locations to try and cut overhead costs. Instead of moving they should have fixed the real issue they have. The food quality, what little there was to it, sucked! I remember in 1991, when they first opened at this location. I used to go there to eat frequently. I usually got the Country Style steak. It was pretty good. After a few years, that all changed. I still would go there from time to time thinking the food would improve. It didn't! I noticed other things on my visits that probably most people don't pay attention to. One was when the floor help would clean off the tables after you eat. I watched the guy wipe the table top down with a rag and then throw the same rag over his shoulder. Then he would take that rag and wipe down the next table. Not a sanitary thing to do for sure! The place just seemed to continue it's downhill slide every time I would go. Honestly, I think it all the issues can be traced to poor management of the restaurant. They had a prime location with lots of potential customers. If you put out a good quality product people will spend their money for it. Nothing bothers me more these days than spending my hard earned money for a meal and getting something that I can't even eat!
Horrible food. We haven't been there in a few years and decided to go last night. Nasty. Everything taste totally different from the way it used to. Gravy was tasteless, my kids jello was dried up and rubbery, he wouldn't even get it apart with a fork. The Mac and cheese used to be good and taste pretty similar to K&W cafeteria, not anymore. It was the worst Mac and cheese I have ever eaten. I will never go back here. Double yuck. I hope the health inspectors shut it down.

It was after a busy black Friday morning full of heavy duty shopping... stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner....it was absolutely just as delicious as eating with your granny, it tastes as AWESOME as your grans recipes! Country steak & gravy over a bed of fluffed rice with a side of tomatoes and cucumbers and purple onions swimming in tangy vinegar, a warm biscuit and the very best tea...I kept closing my eyes hoping my beautiful granny would limp with that hard mill life shuffle, up behind me and kiss me on the cheek and ask if I needed more and if I was ready for our game of old maid and orange jello and pecans! I loved it so much. Sigh!
Excellent, wholesome food at reasonable prices. Great selection of cooked vegetables and salads. Not fancy, but clean and attractive. Highly recommended!
It was a very good meal and our waitress was the best her name was Tracey. The place was very clean too. I got the Whiting fish it was very good had a nice crust on it but they were out of tartar sauce
