I stayed here last year and it was horrible. My first night I witnessed some kid getting kicked out after midnight because the Asian guy in charge caught him sitting on an empty bed 'you ruined the bed, I have to make it again'... He litterally got kicked out. No aircon. Good location. I would expect that the dude in charge is the owner because employed staff would never be allowed to act like that. Very uncomfortable stay.

I booked for the Prince Edward location. Never was I contacted that the location closed down. I didn't know until my shuttle arrived. Now I'm stuck staying near the university. Like... who does that??? THIS PLACE IS CLOSED!!

Clean beds, sheets, and bathrooms. Community kitchen and refrigerators are a nice convenience. Parking inexpensive for Waikiki, and no guarantee on availability, if available, 10/day. Strict dorm rules, but worth it. Beach towels and bath towels but bring your own soap and shampoo. Snorkel stuff available. Convenient, great location, make Paul smile or laugh and you win!

Great place! Cleanest hostel I've been to in the world! The owner is very nice and helped me out in a jam when I arrived here instead of the hostel I was supposed to go to.

Could not stay here as there was no A/C in rooms in the middle of the summer. Owner was particularly rude to men and particularly nice to women, which freaked me out. Do not recommend.

Too many rules and not enough fun, for example checking out early in the morning is not really an option, and you have to return key the night before, clean flip-flops on the premise if coming from the beach, limited parking etc. Good location though and staffs are OK friendly.

The rooms are simple and look old. There is no WiFi in the rooms and even in the common area, it doesn't work that well (and the common area closes at 11:30pm). Moreover there is no AC in the rooms either, it is cooler outside than inside and the fan is quite noisy. Reception closes from noon to 3pm, which is really inconvenient. We were warned from the start by the staff that the manager was very strict and stingy. I guess all these rules affect the guests because the atmosphere is quite weird, it felt like noone really wouldn't to be there. Spend the extra dollara and get a room at the Beach Boutique, it is really worth it!

I enjoyed my stay at the Hosteling Waikiki despite the limitations it had. It is literally just 1 or 2 streets from the beach and the hostel had decent gear you can borrow. Paul even offers the use of beach towels to help keep your gear clean. While the hostel has strict rules those were not a problem. Good: 1. Close to the beach 2. Rooms are clean and orderly, with lockers. Bring your own locks. 3. Has snorkeling gear and beach towels to borrow. 4. Paul gives great advice on how to make your visit to Oahu a great one. 5. Great rates 6. ABC Convenience store close by (2 blocks away). Safeway (grocery store-0.8 miles) is cheaper. 7.No smoking or drinking on premises. 8. No outsiders allowed. If your friends don't stay there, they stand outside. Bad: 1. What was a problem is that you can only check-in during a certain time in the morning from 7-12 or 7AM- 1PM. I arrived after 1 and had to then take my car, my luggage elsewhere for 2-3 hours to come back. I would have preferred to leave my bags and then leave in the car. 2. The next big problem is what i consider false advertising. The website says parking available @10 a day. Even though there were multiple spots available, i was denied their use and had to walk 1 mile each way to park the car and then leave early every day to move the car. And this was on 4 consecutive nights. I could see empty spots in the parking lot every night and day. Parking elsewhere costs at least 20-40 a day. 3. The kitchen is closed at night around 11:30 PM and opens at 7 AM. So you can't go grab a snack or use the microwave or watch TV or read a book in the hostel. That sucks big time. 4. Wifi doesn't work. 5. No ceiling fans, but wall mounted table fans. Some work and swivel great. The one in our room was stuck. So it will get extremely hot in the day and cool with a breeze at night. Recommendations: If you are ok with the strict restrictions, lack of parking then it's a great place. Else, go somewhere else.
