Super unprofessional auctioneer. His commentary throughout the auction is cringeworthy. He seems to “curate” his auction and takes each lot very personally. He will gloat during one lot and price shame his captive audience during the next. The auction house publishes each lot with a starting bid and if the item doesn’t get any bids at that price prior to the auction’s start, the auctioneer just randomly chooses a price, typically double what was listed as the starting bid, and then starts negotiating and price shaming his captive audience. A chaise lounge was published with a starting bid of 400 Across LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable and Bidsquare, yet he started it at 800, then was just horrified to go down to 600 then 500. One of the few rich old ladies in the audience said she would pay 400, he then said he would do 450 and she was like 400 is my offer and he screamed “NO..See what happens, now you’ve lost it over just 50 dollars, PASS”. I’m sitting at home on LiveAuctioneers trying to bid like like it’s a real, professionally run auction and realize that this is not a real auction, but some sort of Pathological exercise. He should be removed from the auction platforms. Publishing misinformation and then negotiating with your group of rich old ladies in the audience like its a garage sale while your online bidder stares on without the opportunity to participate is mind-glowingly unprofessional.

Had a minor issue that was quickly and professionally resolved. That is how you tell the true merit of a company and Stair handled it exceptionally.

I placed an absentee bid on an item that was confirmed but never executed for me. The item sold for 1/12 what I bid (I bid very high because I loved the item) and while they put me in touch with the buyer, they did nothing else to right the situation. I'd strongly advise against absentee bids here.

This place is almost like visiting a well curated museum... I always learn a lot just from wandering the galleries with the auction book. If you are like me, an average schmo, you can still find something to bid on...while watching the high-end dealers and collectors reach the stratosphere with their bids. It's truly exciting.
