I had never had any formal martial arts training before Iowa City Kung Fu so I was completely fresh to it. I do believe I landed in the right place! Sifu Grant Brown and Rob Weingeist train styles of Kung Fu that are unique to the area. I had a lot to learn, and both instructors are very patient down-to-earth people. The two styles they teach are practical and very powerful! They are both very knowledgeable about Chinese culture and philosophies. They will start out as your instructors and end up being your mentors. I have a lot of respect for both of them and the arts they teach. I was with them for almost 2 years and I would continue training with them for 10 years if I could. They are great people, and all of Iowa City Kung Fu is great people. You will not regret this experience! Thank you again Grant and Rob, and the rest of Iowa City Kung Fu!
Sifu Grant Brown is a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable coach. Both myself and my two top students have trained at his school. We all agreed that it was an excellent experience. Grant has lived and trained in China. He is fluent in Chinese language and as such has a rich and deep understanding of the art. I highly suggest that anyone interested in Gung Fu should check out his school.
Amazing instructor with a depth of knowledge! Sifu Grant is a great guy with a lot of first hand real experience from his training in China. His cultural and physical knowledge of the Tradotional Chinese Arts is exceptional!
Sifu Grant has a deep understanding of Bak Mei and Wing Chun. He is passionate about teaching his art and is dedicated to teaching his students not just self defense, but also proper body mechanics to make these traditional techniques work. It is instructors like him that are bringing an ancient art like Kung Fu to the 21st century. I would definitely seek him out if I were in town!
