If you're visiting Cornell, definitely try to get to the tower for a chimes concert. I recommend one early in the morning for great views with the morning sun but the views are great before and after the evening concert as well. It's very fun to watch the chimes master play and to ask questions after the concert. The only way to the top is to climb the 161 steps.

A must watch in Cornell University. It is part of Cornell's history and tradition. There ia no lift, so you have to climb up the narrow stairs. But when you go to the top, the view is totally worth it, you can have a good view of Ithaca, Cornell and the lake. There is also a chimes concert , schedule can be found at the tower web page. Also occasionally it is decorated for example red on Valentine's. In short a must visit place if you go to Cornell

One of the best (read: most memorable parts of attending Cornell) will be the chimes that play through the day. Whether it's the Harry Potter theme, James bond theme, a recent hit, a classical piece, nothing is off limits. It's been fantastic to hear those chimes either exiting the library, from my dorm window on West campus, or anywhere else in central campus I happen to be when a concert starts. Simply pleasurable.

Opens only a few times a day for the chimes concert. Listening to the music while they play is a beautiful experience. The top floor has an incredible view of all the directions but the bells can be overwhelmingly loud!
