Cornell has an absolutely absurd policy of charging employees 350 yearly to park at work. Let’s repeat that: I am required to pay a 350 fee just to go to my job. Some jobs occur outside the hours of public transportation. And being that Cornell is near virtually no housing, the only means of getting to work is via car. Therefore this 350 fee is an unavoidable payroll deduction. On top of that, Cornell provides no parking waivers if your job requires quick transportation around the large campus, and militantly pursues parking violations. I’m regularly charged 5 per park when I need to transport time-sensitive materials across campus. This is yet another daily unavoidable payroll deduction. Of course, Cornell knows this. But being that it’s the largest employer in the area, you can’t really avoid these costs. What a dumb policy.
