I arrived as the manager of both facilities was leaving and had the 4000 acres to myself. Talk about silence. Not one bird sang and the wind was still. I walked the three mile loop to the Savannah River. Mostly 50 ft pines planted in very precise patterns. (I know, too many p’s) The trail was clearly marked and meticulously maintained. (m’s) Parking is excellent. The main compound is only accessible by a smooth sand/dirt road.

Forester Brandon gave me a fantabulous tour. I finally got to see the "Silver Bluff", at the end of Silver Bluff Rd. I learned alot of fun history tid-bits and enjoyed the 3 mile loop trail. His cutie-patootie dog, Harper, even joined us. I never knew the Savannah River used to have grand Mississippi River-style river boats. I even got to witness an unusual animal friendship, seeing a big white bird, just hanging out on a horse's back, at Stork Pond. What a great day!!!!!

Great place to hike. Level trails with different lengths. Nearby Woodstork pond and mill ruins.

My son and I had an amazing time here. It is pretty secluded so if you enjoy peace and quiet, this is definitely the place for you. We learned so much about the different kinds of birds in the state and had a nice little picnic on one of the many nature trails. There is a lot to explore so we will definitely be going back in the future to find more!
