The only major commercial port of Maui, this is a quiet, tiny harbor. Like most ports around the world, Kahului Harbor is 100% commercial. There are no restaurants or shopping within the harbor, which is why visitors from the cruise ship are forced to flock to the Maui Mall across the street or Queen Kaahumanu Center down the road for any sort of entertainment. The gulf-shaped waters are well-protected from the choppy north shore ocean by two man-made peninsulas. Situated on the east peninsula are the State Harbor Office and just 3 piers where all of Maui's cargo comes in, and is the only pier on the island that is long and deep enough to berth 2 cruise ships end to end. If you're shipping in or out of the island, you'll definitely do business here with either Matson, Pasha, or Young Brothers.

Here is where it used look it when the Kahului Railroad was Still running through 1879 until 1966
A rather long walk on a hot and humid day from The Pride of America cruise ship to the car rental place. The walkway is well marked and patrolled. The supermarket and shopping center are right across the pier, so you can pick up any sundries.
This is a lifeline of Maui. The amount of business brought to Hawaii through this Harbor and Port is crazy. All of the barges, the cruise lines, etc brings in so much money to the island. Although it is a harbor, so it is traditionally SUPER stinky because of drying and rotting seaweed. Even with all of that, there is an awesome break here for the surfers, so you'll see it busy no matter what is going on.
Great place to park and fish at with friends.
I used to race Outrigger Canoe late 70s up to 1980 broke state record with freshman
