Dr Laura, Joan and the Team at Kinder saved my life. This place is serenity in a world of chaos. We not only worked on our minds but our bodies through integrative nutrition therapy and yoga as well as water aerobics. The pool was a welcome reprieve during our downtime and the therapy horses are always there to visit. We were supported in all ways and while no day was easy, every day was worth it. Every day I grew and learned and finally one day I found hope again. I left there with tools to keep me successful in life and there is a continued support program after you’re gone. You will leave feeling like you’re part of an extended family. If you’re wondering if Kinder is the right place for you, you should go, as I said, it saved my life!

Kinder in the Keys was a Godsend to me. Their personalized approach to healing was unique, creative, and customized unlike any type of therapy I've ever had. Dr. Laura and Joan led the therapy sessions with such compassion and insight, that I felt comfortable sharing things that other therapists hadn't pulled out of me in over ten years. For me, only a place this small and intimate (and beautiful) could this type of deep healing from trauma really occur. I was shocked that this level of care was covered by my insurance which made it that much easier to relax and let healing happen without guilt of the cost to my family. Unlike a hospital setting, Kinder in the Keys provided healthy dinners cooked by a chef and a pantry stocked full of healthy food for in between meals. Only processed foods and soda we're not provided which I didn't mind because I was there to heal mind, body and soul. However, we would go on shopping trips often and could purchase these items if we wanted. Each day was carefully planned and customized. We did yoga and meditation daily. We also learned about nutrition, had music and art therapy, and weekly family sessions and 1 on 1 therapy. In between therapy sessions I would sit and reflect in their beautiful yard, swim in the pool, pet the horses and play with the dogs. We also had several outings, one of which was a glass bottom boat tour and my favorite- dolphin therapy. It was life changing. In a place this beautiful one might think it's more of a vacation, and although it could pass as a resort, there is much more to therapy at Kinder in the Keys. Dr. Laura and Joan are there to challenge you, to push you out of your comfort zone, and that's incredibly difficult and at times even scary. But trusting in the process is so important because these women have the insight and knowledge of what it takes to heal from trauma. It is worth the tears! Thank you so much for the gift of healing! I will always treasure my experience at Kinder in the Keys.

Greatest experience ever! Dr Laura really pushes us to be better and address whatever issues keeping us stuck. It’s tough sometimes but the most amazing outcomes blossom from hard work. The facility is beautiful and the yoga, nutrition, and activities are just what we need to help make us feel better. Oh and the Dolphins!!! Keep up the good work KIK!!! Much love!

If you have a history of trauma avoid this place like the plague. Laura appeared very nice on the phone and during our initial meeting, but changed very quickly. I sought treatment for trauma and an eating disorder. Kinder in the Keys advertises on their website that they treat eating disorders and I informed Laura of my condition before I was ever admitted and was told it would be fine. I was in treatment for less than 2 days before Laura became angry that I was unable to eat. When I reminded her of my eating disorder she simply informed me that I had to eat or I would be kicked out because she only treats \stable\ eating disorders. I informed her that, by nature, eating disorders are unstable and she became irate. She frightened me and further exacerbated my trauma issues. She treated me as if my anorexia was simply an act of defiance and something I could control. I was also verbally attacked by other clients and staff during groups because I wasn't comfortable answering a question or because my answer was not liked by the leader. Much of the \treatment\ was us sitting around doing nothing. Laura also lied to my family and therapist about my behavior. She also refused to follow up with any other treatment centers who contacted her on my behalf. We received only a fraction of a refund for what we paid and I was discharged by Laura after 4 days because she couldn't treat me and had lied about it. (I am sure she will counter my story, despite it's accuracy). I was shamed by the staff here and made to feel like I had done something wrong. Like it was my fault I couldn't eat. I have since received proper treatment in a competent facility. I ended up having to be tube fed which angers me because Laura basically insinuated that I was simply exaggerating my disorder to be defiant. I am so glad I was able to find better treatment elsewhere, but I am still haunted by how terrible and abusive Laura and her staff were to me.

I can’t say enough about Kinder In The Keys. I was a patient for a couple of months & I can honestly say it saved my life & my marriage. The therapists are some of the nicest, intuitive, creative professionals I’ve ever encountered (and I’ve been in therapy for a long time). The facility is beautiful, everyone on staff was so nice & comforting. Kinder truly saved my life.
