Fort Jefferson

Just visit Fort Jefferson in today (3/5/2021) and find the lighthouse has been removed. The park ranger said the lighthouse just removed about few months ago for repairing and will install it back in early 2022. So the lighthouse will not be available to view in whole 2021.

Part of our flight a couple years ago over to visit Fort Jefferson is to tour the Garden Key Light which is also called the Tortuga Harbor Light. Built during the 1800's. "After the Storm," the 1932 short story by Ernest Hemingway is about a shipwreck between nearby Garden Key and Rebecca Shoal.
wondrous experience. so fun to imagine visiting this area back when the lighthouse was new . . .
As the structure is metal and painted black, the Garden Key lighthouse provides a unique and contrasting element to Fort Jefferson. If visiting Dry Tortugas National Park and Fort Jefferson, make a point to check this out. Do note, as of June 2017, the lighthouse and nearby staircase is undergoing renovations and, thus are not accessible to the public.
Nice lighthouse inside the fort.
Visited twice.Cute little stubby light on the fort. Opened and toured with special permission. Lots of history to see, was nice to be able to visit, do so if you can get the time for the trip to the fort.
A unique place on a desert island - sounds like a great value preposition - no?! This place exceeded our expectation with almost no visitors we felt like we have this place all to our selves. We were short on time so we took the Water plane there - What an awesome experience!!
Garden Key Lighthouse is a part of Dry Tortugas National Park on the main island and is on the top floor of of Fort Jefferson, accessible via stairs only. It stands out from the rest of the fort as it's black and the fort itself is made of brown bricks. It's a beautiful lighthouse and you must visit if you're at Dry Tortugas.
