FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!!! NOTE: They are open for business in the parking lot across from their old shop! Look for the Big Kahuna truck. Awesome folks and instruction! (They even furnish your rash guard - shirt - and sturdy water shoes.) I was nervous and am not a water-baby by any stretch. Our instructor, Jesse, and the owner, Jeff, were really awesome: friendly, encouraging, patient, super knowledgeable, and FUN! If you're new to surfing (or even experienced!) these are the folks for you! I noticed other surf schools didn't spend NEAR as much time with the land lesson first, and I KNOW that extra time and practice really set me up for success. I got up multiple times for a several seconds each, and Jesse was so encouraging. I am a raving fan! It might have been easy to give up, but he kept encouraging me and giving me some things to try, then WHAM! I had an AWESOME long ride to the end of the wave. It was so thrilling! I highly recommend this company to anyone visiting Maui. It was a great experience from start to finish! (AND they take lots of pictures! What an incredible memory and keepsake! Love these guys!!)
My 11 year old daughter and I (I’m 43) had the absolute best lesson with Jesse. He was fun but always put our safety first. We’re both hooked on surfing now. Would absolutely do again!
My husband and I signed up for surf lessons about 3 months ago when we knew we would be in Maui for our honeymoon. We were excited, but unfortunately while in Maui I got the stomach flu. It was really bad so my husband planned to surf while I stayed on land. The owner would not give us a refund which is understandable, but the website says “in the event of an emergency you will be refunded”. I guess it just depends on what you would call an emergency. Then the next day we went to rent a board from the same company because on the website it says “discounted rentals therefore after” meaning after you pay for a lesson. When my husband asked what the discount was the owner said it was just an extra 30- minutes. Not much of a discount when all other shops give you the whole day for 20. My husband showed the owner what the website said and the owner gave him a huge attitude and started throwing the board on the ground and saying “whatever”. We got the discount, but he was so rude about it. You would think that after we payed for 2 lessons, and only got one, then came back for rentals that you would treat your customers a little better. He also only let my husband rent the board for 2 hours. Go elsewhere for rentals. With that being said the instructors, are fabulous and this guy is lucky he has good instruction or else this would be a complete 1 star review.
Jeffrey and Jessie went above and beyond to make our experience the best ever! All 5 of us got up and were able to surf (including the little 9 year old girl in our group). They have excellent and sanitary equipment. Would use again
Affordable prices. What stuck out the most to me was how honest the business owner was in his suggestions to give the best experience and not just to make money. Great paddle boarding rental location in the Kihei, HI area.
Jessie was an amazing instructor! Big Kahuna stayed open and had Jessie give my family of 4 surfing lessons on Thanksgiving day. He was so kind and all of us were successful surfers! I would take lessons from him again any day! Thanks Jessie!
The surfing lessons here are a great experience you can enjoy with your family or even alone. Everyone makes you feel very included and the instructors give you one on one help even if you are in a group lesson. Very personable experience I would take again if I ever came back to Maui.
