SO WHAT! ANOTHER SMALL TOWN ONE ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE. WHATS THE BIG DEAL.? FOR ONE ITS OUR HISTORY. DO YOU THINK EVERY TOWN HAD A BIG GRADE SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL. IF WE GO BACK A HANDFUL OF GENERATIONS AND I BET WE ALL HAD FAMILY THAT WENT TO A SCHOOL LIKE THIS. BUT THIS ONE IS A LITTLE BIT SPECIAL. A SCHOOLTEACHER BY THE NAME OF JESSE MERWIN THAT TAUGHT HERE WAS THE INSPIRATION OF WASHINGTON IRVING CHARACTER ICHABOD CRANE. NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU TO GO SEE THE SCHOOL. HOW ABOUT ELEANOR ROOSEVELT GAVE A RADIO SPEECH FROM THESE VERY STEPS OF THE ICAHABOD CRANE SCHOOL URGING THE NATION TO SAVE AND CHERISH THESE ONE ROOM SCHOOLS. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. THERE IS A BUNCH OF GREAT SITES AROUND THIS TOWN TO SEE. YOU CAN EASILY SPEND A DAY HERE TOURING.
The grounds are beautiful and the property well maintained
Fun and interesting. A great place to visit if in the area. Tour guide was friendly and informative. We were there about 15 minutes then walked to the neighboring Van Alen house for the guided tour.
