This place is heaven on earth. Out of all the Hawaiian islands this is the most peaceful and serene. The trip to the summit is via beautiful curved roads. Sunrise at the top is one in a lifetime things to see. No words are enough to explain the beauty. Star gazing at night is whole different experience of this marvelous place. It’s cold at night be mindful of that. Temperature can very from 65 degrees Fahrenheit at bottom to 35 degrees Fahrenheit at top. Night driving to and from summit is little hard as no road lights and curvy roads.

I have to say...I was Scared To Death on the drive up and down. My husband had to drive and I was gripping handles and doing deep breathing exercises. I dont want to scare anyone from this amazing experience but you should be prepared for this drive. The Road to Hana is mild compared to this because you are driving up up up and there is often no railing. Eventually you are Above the clouds!! Yes, at the top, it's gorgeous! And yes, I am glad we did it!
It's a beautiful park. Too bad it was little rainy at the top and our bike tour got postponed. Oh well, you can't control the weather. Nothing happens in God's world by mistake.
This is a must do in Maui! The road up is a little tricky. We used gypsy guide. I really like it. I would recommend.
The park rangers at the entrance were so nice. We simply got there with our reservation for the morning sunrise pass, paid the 30 dollar park fee, got my National park stamp and got in quickly. We did see people get turned back for not having a sunrise pass so make sure you reserve ahead of time. Must have sucked to have driving out at 2am and gotten there at 3am only to be turned away because you didn’t look into getting the pass. A sign entering the road that leads to the entrance clearly reminds you to make sure you have a pass reserved for the morning sunrise pass before going forward but guess they missed it or tried to get in knowing they didn’t have a pass. Either way the summit at the top for the sunrise is the sunrise of all sunrises. That’s all I’ll say about that!
This is such an amazing place. Weather it’s sunny or not. It’s just a great experience. Imagine I jumped out of an airplane at 10,000 feet above sea level and we get to stand on the top of this amazing whole.
We visited the peak for sunset. The views were absolutely amazing with relatively less crowds! Haleakala summit point is a good point to see the sunset!
How anyone can give this place less than five stars is unfathomable to me. It's cold, windy, and looks like the moon landing was filmed there. It's a must do when on Maui -- at least once for sunrise and once for sunset. I personally prefer sunset. The stars after dark are incredible.
