It’s a well maintained trail and most of it covered with redwood trees. If someone prefers a shaded trail, this is the one. There is a trail for bikers too. You might spot Cayote here, at least I saw one last week. Difficulty level - Average!

Very cool and shady trail with few people, good downhill for bikes and refreshing creek at the bottom. Somewhat steep on the way back up.

This trail is your access to the Peters Creek waterfall and Ponponio's cave. These are five-star sights. Hike north (turn right) on the Ridge Trail and turn left on the not-a-through-trail trail 30 feet after crossing Portola Heights Road. Hike to the bottom of that trail and turn a sharp right onto the overgrown driveway. Cross the homestead site and enter the Peters Creek canyon. Follow the trail down the canyon to the waterfall. The entrance to Ponponio's cave is on the other side of the creek, between two huge boulders. Only sure-footed hikers should attempt the scramble over the rocks to the cave during peak water flow. But late in the season, it's just an agility challenge.

Great hiking trail, it goes in a loop and has maps at the start. The trail is shaded by trees so it's great even on a hot day, but water is still a must. Beware no matter which direction you take, the trip back to the car will always be uphill! Left side leaving the road is easier to come back on than the right side. You'll see horse fly's (they bite) lizards, and maybe even rattle snakes.

A trail that starts from the middle of a road... Goes through a creek. Poison oaks, rattlesnakes and mountain lions are said to be found on this hiking trail.
