This is an amazing site to interpret the transition from the eastern states to the frontier. It is on the Santa Fe Trail and was very much a trading post as well as a location to house troops to protect the families and trades people from the natives. The Park person was quite knowledgeable and presented information about life there in a very relaxed friendly way. I have to admit I spent more than I expected at the bookshop!

Influenced by the western end of the Santa Fe trail more than the eastern end, this adobe-style fort is a really cool spot. We went in August and it was amazing how much cooler it was inside the rooms than it was outside. But there's no air conditioning anywhere, so it's still warm.

Beautiful, historic location. Park Ranger was friendly and chatted with us for a little bit. Great activity to do during COVID. Not crowded, lots to do outside, and you support National Parks. Win, win.

Loved the history of this place! It transports you back to the 1840s and a great depiction of how life was back then. I was here as a kid back in 1976 after it was first rebuilt, but obviously didn't appreciate the details that were added to the experience. It's definitely a \destination\ place to visit.

The fort its self was nice. I made friends with the resident cats there. However as we are in the midst of a Global Pandemic the two of three men working there were not wearing a mask. :( The fort was cool to see and learn about though. If you go definitely do the nature walk, it has historic facts and a chance to see oxen.
