Hele Wai Eco Tours!! Really, unless you want to hike 15 miles round trip, and then you lose the Kevin's fantastic narration. Gorgeous and important piece of Maui's watershed.
There is no arboretum!!! Unless you like hiking a lot...don't go looking. I followed the Mahana Ridge trail for 3 hrs...until it ended. There was no arboretum. It's an ancient island myth!!!
Not accessible unless you hike the Mahana Ridge Trail for a 17 mile round trip (very difficult) or you own a mansion in Plantation Estates. There is a guardhouse that does not let you through to drive up, unless you live there. Essentially, they have privatized this Arboretum.
Hiked this two weeks ago, the top is suffering from the rain, heavy canopy and dropping fruit has created a very very buggy climb at top levels. So it was overgrown and muddy but doable from DT Fleming parking lot. The pass thru tree at the beginning tipped off the edge because of the heavy rains this year, sadly this gorgeous feature is no longer. Glad I came before!
Shuttle service no longer runs to this location. Finding it requires great directions and a he'll of a hike.
