I was looking to get into BJJ for a while and so glad I found a lockdown. The Professor Joe Thompson is awesome. He is well versed, and will routinely aim to improve your game every time your on the mat. Don’t feel intimidated, this place has a great vibe and all the members want to see you learn and progress. As soon as I walked in on my first day I was welcomed and introduced to the owners Joe and Beth. They are a great team. I’m really enjoying my time thus far and kind of bummed I didn’t come sooner. You will not be disappointed at Lockdown. Highly recommend this place. Very clean and adhering to all the guidelines to make it a fulfilling experience.

I am a white belt who trains at an affiliated BJJ school in Queens, so I came here to train only for about a month because I was going to spend that much time on Long Island. Professor Joe Thompson, the black belt who owns the school) was kind enough to take me in and help me as if I were his own student and guided me to improve my skills and even rolled with me and gave me some great pointers. The guys (instructors and class mates) are great and friendly. You can tell they take a closer look to their school values and make sure the environment is a positive one where even beginners will have a good time while learning the basics. I know they always do some specials to make sure people at the early levels at least train and get used to the techniques without being to concerned to be in a huge debt or long commitment before trying out and seeing if it works for them. The gym is beautiful, clean and lots of space; and I know they’re building an even bigger and better place right next door so it’s only going to get better. I hope if I’m in town I get to roll there when they open their new place. I totally recommend this school. You’ll have a great time and learn from a great professor and instructors, who by the way always bring medals every time they compete. Thanks professor and thanks Lockdown team!

Professor Joseph Thompson is one of the most thorough, caring professors in the sport. He doesn't stop until the whole class is on the same page and grasping the move of the week. Patience and determination flows off him as does what he does best; teach this sport to others. Been with Joseph Thompson since the beginning, best choice I made was to join the family of Lockdown BJJ

I spent some time at Lockdown and had a really great time. The other people were really fun and welcoming and the facility is nice and clean. Joe, the instructor, is fantastic. He cares about the students deeply and teaches a great, well structured class. The is a great place wether it’s your first class or you’re a seasoned upper belt. Highly recommend!!
