We received a letter saying they were tacking on an additional 558 to our bill because we had paid three late fees in the past 12 months. Upon further investigation the late fees were due to payments having to be forwarded from their old address to their new address which they moved to in Jan but did not send out notification of directly to their customers. This is a big problem if you have auto pay set up with your bank, as I did. When I asked the billing specialist about this I was told “this is not our problem. It’s the customers responsibility to verify the address of their electric company prior to sending payment each month.” This is ridiculous and appears to be a great way for them to scam customers out of additional money. I’m also betting I talked with the same nasty, bitter person as the person from the post prior to mine, because she also refused to take any responsibility, and treated me like she was doing me a favor allowing Lyon Coffey Electric to rob me of my hard earned money. Or maybe they train all of their employees to talk to customers like they are worthless garbage. The billing specialist also notified me that they had sent out notification of their address change as an ad in some obscure farming magazine. Why? Just why? WHY WOULDN’T YOU SEND THIS TO YOUR CUSTOMERS DIRECTLY (unless you don’t want customers to know so you can wait for late fees to pile up, then charge them a ridiculous fee). I would change service if it were an option. If you are considering buying a home that falls in the Lyon Coffey jurisdiction, please take this into account before you decide to buy. You will be stuck with this corrupt company.

I've been a member of Lyon-Coffey Electric for almost 20 years. I have seen their ups and downs. Billing has never been an issue as I pay my bills on time by directly mailing it in with the provided return envelope which ALWAYS has the correct mailing address! That is until they offered a FREE online bill payment option. I don't understand those who \pay their bill online\ to some 3rd parth entity who takes their money then simply mails a payment into Lyon-Coffey Electric. You're only asking for delayed transactions and late penalities. As a Lyon-Coffey Electric member who does indeed pay my bill on time I don't feel like we should subsidize a member who doesn't nor do I think it's the coop's fault for late paying members whom use some silly 3rd party payment platform when there's already immediate payment systems available at no cost offered by the coop. I don't understand this folks who claim to be technology savvy whom fee it their duty to blast a business because they are in the wrong. Keep up the good work!
Paid online, company had moved, didn't know how to set up mail forwarding, check sat in mailbox, sent bill collectors, we had to issue stop payment on check and reissue. Next bill, late fee. Manager acted like she was doing a favor (\I'm putting a note in your file and we won't do it again\) taking it off when it was their incompetence that led to the situation in the first place. Apparently KS is a egulated state\ (so we cannot switch providers) which allows companies to operate in this fashion with no recourse.
