Originally I planned to deliver at Reston Hospital but at around 30 weeks (before Covid) I decided to switch up my birth plan. I was taking Bradley classes at a natural birth center in Chantilly so that inspired me to shop around. I delivered at The Natural Birth Center during the beginning of the Covid craziness and I am so glad I did. One reason I decided to switch from conventional hospital to the natural birth center was because I wanted to try to labor and deliver naturally without pain medication. Being at the Natural Birth Center made it slightly inconvenient for me to cave in and ask for pain management. It was like having the comforts of home without the stress of a home birth. I LOVED that even though it is located outside of the L&D wing, I was less than 2 minutes away from escalated or emergency medical services in case of a situation. That really put my mind at ease because if I were at home or a stand alone birth center I would have had to be transferred which was at least a 15-30 minute drive in my case. (Luckily I didn’t need it but it was comforting knowing I could get help if needed.) I could also be transferred to the L&D wing if I decided I wanted to opt for an epidural. It was a nice back up plan. As part of INOVA Loudoun, the team was AMAZING. They really did everything to make me feel comfortable during this special experience in this crazy situation. I am so grateful to have had this experience and memory.

This birth center is absolutely amazing!! Midwives Monica and Melissa are wonderful. I labored in the giant tub and loved it. (You can’t deliver in the tub though). The postpartum care was great too. It’s wayyyyyyyyyyy better than where I delivered my first kid, Virginia hospital center.
