Very set in stone with their guide lines, and coming from someone who has owned birds longer than this Rescue has been open...If you own a dog, don't even waste your time with them. Every situation is different and rescues need to understand that. 30 years experience owning, handling, raising birds and this would be the last place I look to adopt.....

I took a group of kids to Iowa Parrot Rescue for a tour. What a neat place doing so much good for all kinds of parrots. Our tour guide, Elizabeth, was one of the nicest people I've ever met. They even have an outdoor aviary that we may go back to visit when it warms up and the birds can be outside. The kids LOVED this place and meeting all the funny, sweet birds. It is LOUD with all the squaking, screaming birds, but the bird behaviors you will witness are so entertaining! If you want to visit Iowa Parrot Rescue, you need to make an appointment ahead of time, but please be sure to leave them with a donation so they can continue their great work!

I wasn’t able to adapt a bird just because im student and live with my parents who also wants a parrot and im online student so most of my time will be in home. It doesn’t make sense at all.
I volunteered here for a short time while I still lived in Iowa City, and I am so thankful for my time there. I have learned so much about parrots and birds alike that will forever encourage me to advocate for the health and comfort of these beautiful creatures. They are doing incredible work alongside the neighboring communities.
