The UMD Limnology building was a US Fisheries building and was donated to the University in 1948 and used as a temporary housing for faculty. The building is no longer used but remains a part of UMD and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The gravel parking lots are a great place to park for access to the lake and Lester river.
