Good for kids
15 to park, space for 150 cars. Drive up to the beach line and sit right in front of your car. If you have kids, it’s nice to not have to carry stuff a far distance. Only downside is that the beach is very narrow and a bit rocky. Strong rip currents on this beach, so you need to be a strong swimmer if you venture into deeper waters. Low tide is the best time to visit.

Gorgeous little beach. Water is clear and waves are typically small. Sand is good and smooth. Lifeguards on duty are attentive. Can surf here as well.
South Shore Beach does have something for everyone, but parts of it are rocky and there are rip tides at time. It does have a fair amount of seaweed up close to shore, but wading through it is easy and the sea floor is very gradual so getting to clear water is no problem either. Season pass costs 175 for nonresidents.
My family and I enjoyed it. It’s a small beach and not overly crowded. It was a nice breezy July day and not hot. The water was cold, compared to what I’m used to (North Carolina), so it was quite nice. There were a lot of river rocks and the beach was very clean. There weren’t many shells until you get to the rocky side. There were tons all around the large rocks.
South Shore is one ofnthe best beaches in the area. I willingly drive the 40 minutes to go to this beach over any other. Better than Narragansett, better than Newport. Not as many amenities but hands down the best beach.
