I hired McMaster/Faganel custom homes to build my house and this was my experience: 1. According to the sworn final statement, they charged me for carpet (2444) and I never got any carpet in my home. 2. Before I made the final payment, I asked to see all the invoices from their subcontractors and they refused to give them to me. 3. They forced me to pay the last payment 5 months before I got a permanent occupancy permit. 4. They threatened to withhold the lien waiver statements until I paid everything they wanted. 5. I finally got all the lien waiver statements 1 month after I made the final payment - because they had not paid many of their subcontractors until the very end. - in some cases, several months after they had finished their jobs. 6. In some cases, they hire their friends to do the work, and pay them double what the market price would be if they had actually sent the bid out to other subcontractors. 7. They told me the architect plan would cost 10,000. But they paid the architect only 5,641. 8. They tried to put water damaged doors in my basement and I had to argue about it repeatedly and tell them that was unacceptable. 9. There are several discrepancies in their accounting statements listing the amounts the subcontractors were paid compared to the original contract price - which means they inflated some of the charges at the end. 10. I had to be at the job site every single day to catch all the mistakes. I did research, and found out their former company called McMaster Custom Homes went bankrupt several years ago - which explains their behavior. They will squeeze their customers for every dollar they can get and lie about it in the process.
