I had to call several times and was placed on hold many times. I had my japanese friend call for me because the staff was very inept at serving my needs in English. I am an aspiring teacher and seeing that these people are in a professional setting without the necessary skill in English to handle important matters like this is beyond me. On top of their poor communication skills, i have needed to call other embassies to make sure they were giving me correct information on my needs. When my japanese friend called she said they were extremely rude and unprofessional. I have called San Francisco embassy and I was served much better there than my own local embassy in Los Angeles. I would drive 10 hours to have a better experience than my own embassy in Los Angeles. I have been to Japan and I know this embassy does not represent the おもてなし of Japan. I am very angry with them!!!

I went to Japan Embassy for renewal of the passport. The Google maps leads me to the building but the actual entrance (if you go there by car like me) is behind of the building. So if you are driving your car, go to Olive street and will find a parking lot. Parking fee is not cheap in Downtown LA!! Go there if you are from San Diego like me by 11:30am Sharp, and the passport is ready by the same day by 3pm. Ask the staff members for the details. You can't pay the amount of the money for passport by credit card or debit card. They only accept cash which is not resonable.

So good staff and the service is very faster than the one which we can take in Japan.

Prior experiences were good, however, had to call them for a family member. Lady answered. I explained reason for my call. She replied, \Who is Japanese citizen?\ \The applicant's mother\ \Let me talk to her\ \I'm the one calling with questions. Can I ask you those questions?\ *Asks questions* Response is unintelligible. I try to clarify my question so she understands and she actually yells at me. You disappoint me Japanese consulate.

I was accidentally transferred to the LA embassy by the receptionist in SF (She was really nice.), I think she mistook me for being in the Southern area of California instead of Central. I was then directed to an extremely rude American lady to ask my questions to. She did not even address herself or the department she was working in, just a rude \hello?\, as if I was an unknown caller to her private phone. For SF's mailing visa process, they wrote that we were to write the address in black ink, so I asked her if it was fine to have the address typed instead, her response, \It doesn't matter who writes it..\ Uhh....That's not what was written on the website. And then she asks where I live, I tell her, and she tells me rudely, \You can't apply here at our office.\ I already suspected that I was directed to the LA consulate by accident by how rude she was but when I explained to her that I was transferred to this line, she tries to call me a liar!! \You cannot be directed to this number. You have to call it directly!\ Uhhh...what is wrong with LA people and their manners? You would expect a consulate/embassy to hire classier people but noppppeeee...Not in LA. I'm so glad my county is in SF's jurisdiction. They have way better customer service.
