I have been working with Sheila using the Synergo music method for about 2 years now and it has made a HUGE difference in both my skill level at the piano and my enjoyment when playing. I took piano lessons for 8 years as a child and quit at age 15 out of frustration with endless practice, LOTS of pressure, and the fact that playing music simply wasn't fun for me. Nearly 20 years later, I decided I missed being able to play music and approached Sheila about becoming an adult student. Her lessons have absolutely transformed the way I play and think about playing! Instead of the obsessive focus on never making mistakes and sight reading that my teachers instilled in me as a child, Sheila is helping me learn to play the piano purely for the enjoyment of creating music. I am not constantly working toward an arbitrary goal of never making mistakes when I play (resulting in a wooden, mechanical playing style and no enjoyment at all on my part!); rather I am playing freely, with beauty and feeling, as a means of experiencing music and expressing myself. Now that I have a 7-year-old daughter myself—the same age I was when I started to play as a child—I’ve started her taking lessons with Sheila and I’m already so pleased by her approach. My daughter is learning proper technique from the beginning, and learning that music is for expression and pleasure, not pressure and performance. I wish I’d had the same expert, passionate, and compassionate instruction when I was her age, but I’m so grateful that this is a gift I can give my daughter now!

My 2 boys (ages 13 and 10) have been taking piano lessons with Sheila for about 3 1/2 years at the recommendation of a friend. I was hesitant to start my younger one, but we decided to just try it out for a bit. I can tell you that we have never looked back. It was the best decision for my kids. Both Sheila and Aleksey have mastered the art of piano teaching. My boys are not only learning to play piano, but they are getting ear training as well as learning theory, composition, and style. Anyone can teach piano through rote learning, but the method taught at Synergo Music is much more in depth and really teaches the kids about the art of music and sound. In these short 3 years, both my boys have become amazing piano players. Although practicing at home can sometimes be cumbersome for any student considering our busy lives, my boys actually really enjoy it because after they practice their lessons, they start playing their own songs that they made up. It's such a joy to watch them play their music. I highly recommend anyone (young child or adult) to take lessons at Synergo.
