We teamed up with Tony Cole from Custom Metals in designing new metal railings throughout our home. The standard original colonial design just didn't match anything else we had done. We gave Tony our ideas of a natural design utilizing branches and leaves and he took it from there. Custom Metals was wonderful to work with and their employees are very skilled in metal and aesthetic arts. We recommend them with all confidence and will work with them again in the future!

Update: The company reached out to say that the level of wear we were experiencing wasn't normal or expected. They came out very quickly to take our railings in to be completely repainted with a different product that should be more durable. I am very impressed by their responsiveness and willingness to make this right and I am updating my review from four stars to five. This company definitely stands behind their product and Kristen has been incredibly helpful throughout this entire process. I'll start by saying the final product was beautiful but we had some difficulty getting to the end of our project. Communication was pretty poor during every stage of our project and nothing ever got scheduled until I reached back out to them (sometimes more than once). Installation took two days because the railings weren't the correct length on day one (they did fix the issues quickly). The railings are exactly what I wanted though which is ultimately the most important thing. My one real issue is that our railings are a matte black finish and already showing wear and paint wearing away. We were warned that sometimes scratches show up on them and we could just use matte black spray paint to do touch ups but they are only two months old and there's one spot where the paint is wearing away on a fairly sizeable area just from people holding onto the railing (not something scratching it). I'm a little annoyed that something this costly is already showing so much wear in such a short period of time.
This company did a fabulous job with the design, fabrication, and installation of our new metal railing inside our home. The staff was helpful and professional. I would recommend them to anyone looking for unique metal work. Our staircase is now a centerpiece in our home.
Custom Metals is the kind of company I love doing business with. It's small and local, and the people are terrific. I moved to a new house this fall which has a few low windows that felt vulnerable to me. I like to leave windows open in summer (I'm not a fan of air conditioning), and I had window guards (artistic barriers as opposed to hardware store burglar bars) on my old house. I wasn't sure who to call but found Custom Metals listed in Madison, so I called them. After talking with them I decided to go ahead with this project and sent them a photo of the windows at my old house; the guards Custom Metals made for my new place have exactly the same graceful design as my old ones, and they look just beautiful in my new house. Tony, who made them, is an artist, and the men who came to install them were great -- they were very nice and they measured down to the last centimeter to get the guards placed properly. Madison isn't as safe as it used to be, so I recommend window guards if you like open windows and are a bit of a chicken, like me. And I'd give Custom Metals ten or twenty stars if Google Reviews had that many!
