Great place to rent kayaks! During our rental, there were still COVID precautions in place (they weren't offering their shuttle services, online reservations in advance only) but that didn't stop us from having fun! We were instructed on where could paddle out to, and given recommendations on spots we could beach the kayaks to swim. The staff was also super friendly. This would be a great activity to bring out-of-towners to if you like the outdoors!

Do not book here. My boyfriend made a reservation weeks in advance. We have called multiple times and didn't hear anything. When we showed up everything was closed and locked up. No phone call or email letting us know what is going on. Highly unprofessional. Their posted hours say they should be open but we asked some other people around what was going on. Apparently they are closed today, but let us book, sent a confirmation email, and had signs up. I do not recommend this to anyone.

Last summer four senior citizens enjoyed a fantastic day kayaking on the James. We were novices, so enlisted Brooke as our guide. She amazed us with her knowledge of the river, as well as the wildlife and plants in and around it. We had opportunities to get in the water and enjoyed a picnic lunch on a shady beach. We had an incredibly fun day and now have a new appreciation for the river and all the James River Association does to protect and promote it. Take the plunge and try this adventure!

My cousins and I just did the half day guided tour with Brooke and had the best time ever. Brooke was amazing, knowledgeable and fun. Would highly recommend, the entire staff and volunteers were simply phenomenal.
