Beautiful area for hiking. The arboretum has a large selection of different kinds of trees. The grounds and trails are well taken care of. Highly recommend if you want to have a peaceful nature experience in Madison.

Treasure of Madison. My record is seeing 23 turkeys in one day at the arb. You are almost guaranteed to see beautiful trees and wildlife. On my last visit, my kids and I saw an owl, three sand hill cranes, and 17 turkeys, plus lots of squirrels. Beautiful coniferous garden with specimens from around the globe. If you get off the main road, you can be alone and really enjoy the trees. The main road is usually VERY busy with bike and foot traffic. The owl picture is in an American beech near the main building. If you are interested in tree identification, this place is a must. Just today I saw my first paw-paw. And got to see fruits and the suckering common to this species.

Beautiful flowering lilacs and crab trees this time of year... It's a wonderful stroll. Also a great study to look at all the species of trees.
