Short, beautiful hike through the woods. This one is great for kids, because it's not very technical. Also good now during coronavirus because the walking trail is often wide and you don't have to get too close to people. There's a waterfall and spring to see if you want to go the extra distance, but it requires for vertical hiking, so bri g water and a snack if that's your plan. You'll want the extra energy.

Cool spot. The managed forest is really interesting and surreal to hike through. The hike is a fairly flat mile (or so) loop with a spur trail down to the spring. The first half of the spur trail is pretty tame; the second half down into the ravine is a bit steep and was slick in places from the rain a couple of days ago. No one bit it, but we were careful going down. Others have mentioned the hike out is a bit steep. It’s about 200-300 feet elevation gain over a quarter mile. You’ll be fine unless you’re really out of shape. The area around the spring is really cool and worth the trip down. The lower part of the spring spur trail is lined with maidenhair fern and the spring itself drips from multiple places out of a hundred foot basalt cliff. There are lava tubes in the spring cliff wall, one of which is easily accessible. The others are not for the faint of heart and it’s a long way from help if you misstep climbing the wet, mossy rocks. Overall, a short hike with a cool destination and worth the trip up the mountain. It’s at 3,700 feet and is a good place to take a break from the heat of the day.
Nice beginning trail. Very short can do the loop within a 1 hour or so. Great for hike to go on with kids. Trail very clear.
This was an awesome hike on a hot day... Great drive upcountry also.. Not hard, little kids and older adults alike could enjoy this hike.
Great place for a quick & easy walk with my humans. -Pearl
This is a lovely well maintained wide trail ... beautiful scenery etc. Although, sadly the porta potty area needs a definite maintenance call. But other than that it's an idyllic walk about.
We enjoyed this trail because it was something different from the other views on the island - pine trees. The trail was well marked and about 1.5 miles in total. There was a part of the trail that branched off to water falling out of lava channels that was more difficult but the views were worth the extra climb.
Super fun to climb through the lava tubes behind the water fall. We went in June so the trail down to the falls wasn't muddy and slippery at all.
