We took a lovely 2-hour boat tour of the Kachemak Bay. We got to see bald eagles and sea otters. They were super cute! Our Captain, Captain Janel, has lived in the area for many years and had a ton of knowledge of the history, current economy and ecosystem. She made us feel comfortable and very safe, despite some choppy seas toward the end. It was a beautiful experience that is highly recommended. Be sure to request Captain Janel!

Mako's water taxi has competent and amazing Captains that can get you to the coolest outdoor access on the Peninsula. Here are a few pictures of my last trip, boated over with Mako's with am awesome Captain and they worked with us, asking another Captain to come in, in order to be sure we're would make it across on the day of our choice. Truly magical experience, I can't recommend them enough.
Our family decided at the last minute to utilize the most beautiful day of our vacation to take a tour to see some Wildlife. I was told to call Mako Tours by another tour company who was full due to it being last minute. Make Tours was so delightful not speak with on the phone and even though they had an emergency they were able to accommodate us. Captain Curt is a biologist and was a wealth of information. He took us to see Sea otters, Harbor Seals and several species of shorebirds. No whales or orcas but that just gives us something to look forward to seeing next time. I highly recommend this tour company. Boat is clean and comfortable! Alaska is an unforgettable vacation! Warmly, The Everts Family Bonita Springs, Florida
My husband and I are visiting Homer from North Pole, AK and were very pleased with our whole experience. The ladies who booked our ferry trip to Glacier Lake the day before the excursion were very pleasant, the boat driver was very informative and gave is some great tips in case of bear encounter, and took us to see some Sea Otters on the way back. The trail was beautiful even on a semi-rainy day. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the lake because there were many bears on that part of the trail but it was still well worth it! Highly recommended!
My family and I took a 2 hour sight seeing tour woth Mako's yesterday. The staff who coordinated the trip were wonderfully hospitable going above and beyond to find an opening last minute to meet our spur of the moment wish. Our skipper was fantastic! Very friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to flex to make the trip exactly what we were looking for. And don't get me started about how spectacular the sights are ALL AROUND Katchemak Bay! We visited Halibut Cove, saw Grewingk Glacier, tons of sea otters to include mommas with their pups, a secluded beach with caves, and Gull Island. Our skipper even provided information to help us with our next adventures. Way to go Mako's! Thank you!!
I went on the two hour tour twice this summer and cannot day enough good things about it. I went out on the Orca with Janel both times and was absolutely blown away. Because it is a smaller tour, there is a lot of flexibility in regard to where you go and where you spend time. Towards the end of our tour today, as we were headed back, we caught sight of some humpbacks. Instead of ending the tour anyway, since our time was up, she brought us closer to the whales and we got to hang around, watching and listening to them. Absolutely worth every penny and then some. I’ll be back for sure.
We got into Homer late and called past their official hours. Not only did they answer, they recommended the right water taxi service based on what we wanted to do and secured it for us for the next morning and called us back to confirm. And the next day we finished the hike faster than anticipated and we called them and they were able to secure an earlier pick up. Definitely recommend them.
Our first choice whenever we need to get across the bay. Friendly and responsive staff with helpful recommendations on hikes. Great boat drivers. Prompt pickups.
