Bought our house in 2011. Numerous HVAC issues over the years. AC went out just over five years after purchase. Builder never registered the warranty or advised us that we needed to or we would have had a ten-year warranty. Had to pay to replace the entire outside unit. Multiple issues with roof. Dishwasher installed improperly; cracked tile. Builder installed centipede grass under trees. Died under the shade. Sold us a lot with a community-standard privacy fence in back and picket fence in front (as they did a lot of other early buyers). Then they sold off the other lots to other builders and did not require those builders to adhere to the same community standards. Did I mention that Hilton Smith (owner and developer) got to serve as HOA president until most of all of the lots had been sold?? I was out of town one weekend and one of their builders was clearing the lot next to ours. When I returned some of the trees on our property had been removed and a section of the privacy fence had fallen. I contacted the builder who refused to reimburse us for the repair. He stated that the fence was already rotten. Some time later a leak sprung up from the ground as PVC pipe running from the community retention pond across my property had burst. It appeared to have been leaking and causing the rot of the fence posts. I contacted Hilton who also declined to accept responsibility. He suggested I contact the former builder. Felt like they were playing me off of each other. This was a 350 repair. Was it really worth a bad review? I’m pretty passive but would not buy from him again.
