You cannot pick a better beach to drive on to camp, have a fire, or spend the day. The sand was fairly hard packed and 2 wheel drive vehicles (sedans; witnessed 6-8 in total...of course 4 wheel drive is always preferred) can enjoy it, just do not venture up too much from the water line into the softer sand. Trash cans around and easily accessible from the main road. Coming from Houston, well worth the drive!!!

Matagorda is a fantastic place to camp, fish, or just hang out on the beach for the day. It has unique access to not only a clean, beautiful, beach, but directly across the street there's a river, and the gulf of Mexico. So whatever your water/fishing preference is, Matagorda has whatever your flavor of outdoor fun. Family-friendly, lots of camp sites/ RV hook ups near the water, many with showers & toilets. Lots of undeveloped land, only mom & pop businesses-area remains unspoiled by big businesses and tourist traps. Highly recommend Matagorda Beach for your next water adventure.
The best. I can find a private spot or a place to fish with others. My dogs can run around and play. People are super friendly. (I have 3 pit bulls, so most people freak when the dogs walk or run up to them, understandable. My female and the youngest were running through the water when I couple walked by and my female thought shed introduce herself. Before I could tell at her to heal and tell them she's super friendly, they were already running to her to give her pets.)
The Best beach I've been to in Texas. The water is clean and you dont feel sticky or disgusting once you dry off. The sand is soft and there's plenty of space to set up and distance yourself. The bathrooms and showers at the entrance are pleasant. There were lots of people fishing off the pier and beach but it's easy to stay away from them.
Nice quiet place. Very clean picnic areas and the beach. Bathroom needed some attention, also didn't see a hand dryer. Hence the 4 stars. Nevertheless it's a great place for a nice outing.
