A must if you're local or visiting, this is truly a gem of a park, tucked away in the middle of the City of McAllen. It is the last old growth forest, so you can get a sense of what the area was like before the city was there. Rabbits, javelinas, birds in and out all year long, lizards, butterflies, owls, and hawks call this wonderful place their home. An abundance of native plant species can be found. One of the features that makes this park extra special is that it originally was intended to be an outdoor educational space for children with special needs. As such, the park is very accessible to those with limited mobility, though there is a slight downhill you have to take to enter the park from the parking lot. Otherwise, you can enjoy much of the park, the hike is not long, and is easily found off of Ware Road - oh and the best part? Entrance to the park is donation based which makes it easily the most economically accessible nature park in the Valley! So there's really no excuse, get out the McAllen MNC ASAP!

Nice area with a lot of potential. Plenty of birds flying around in the morning in September. It is a shame that it is not maintained very well. Photographers bring your camera. Good for a walk with kids/families
