NOTICE: 7/24/20 - Information Update / Actualización de información
English English Spanish (para español seleccione aquà )
Dear Burke Basic School Families,
Yesterday, Governor Ducey and Superintendent Hoffman provided information and guidance on school reopening. While they did not provide all the answers we were seeking, they did provide the following information. (See Executive Order 2020-51) The Executive Order stated that there will be certain criteria to meet before schools can reopen in person. These requirements will be released by August 7, 2020. Our goal at Burke is to open as soon as possible and when it is safe to do so. On-site support services for those students who are English learners or have special needs will begin on Monday, August 17, 2020. As the governor stated yesterday, a face covering policy for staff and students is mandated in this executive order.
The information on August 7th will give us and our school community more defined information. Our school year will continue to start on August 17th and as of today we are planning online until further notice. We are working with our compliance team to plan and strategically plan how we can serve our students and community. Please note that more information will be coming as details are developed. We thank you for your patience throughout this pandemic and we encourage you to continue to monitor our website for new and updates.
Best Regards,
Mr. Mike GaddiePrincipal NOTICE: 7/17/20 - Return to School Plans / Planes de regreso a la escuela
English English Spanish (para español seleccione aquà )
NOTICE: 7/17/2020 Dear Burke Basic School families,
We hope this notice finds you and your family doing well. The purpose of this notice is to inform you of our return to school plan. Burke Basic School plans to start on August 17, 2020. (As required by state authorities.) Either ALL in-person or ALL online. Our goal is to start in person. However, we are aware that this might change due to the level of infection, the spread of the virus, and the response to the disease in our community. If on-campus learning is allowed students will attend school 5 days per week. 8:00am-3:00pm Students and staff will be expected to wear face coverings while on campus when 6 ft. distancing is not possible. If the authorities lift this restriction, face coverings will then become recommended but optional. Parents are expected to conduct a screening of student temperature and other COVID-19 related symptoms prior to sending their student(s) to school. Students will wash their hands frequently. Transportation – Bussing will be offered as normal. However, students will be required to wear a face cover, and temperatures will be checked with a touchless thermometer, and students displaying symptoms will not be allowed on the bus. There will be a modified lunch schedule, with students eating in their classrooms some days and in the cafeteria other days. Parents and visitors will not be permitted on campus. Students may only be picked up through our pick-up and drop-off process, with the exception of late drop-offs and early pick-ups. Only one parent will be allowed when dropping off late students or for early pick-up. There will be no open house this year, however, we will have a virtual open house via zoom. Teachers will call/zoom every student prior to school starting.
Online Learning School Option
In the event that we cannot start school operations in person or are determined to be unsafe to continue for an interim period of time, notice will be provided to parents and all students will convert to an online learning environment until it is safe to return to the school building.
During interim online learning, students will receive access to core academic instruction as well as special education and related services, as appropriate. To the extent practicable, access to learning opportunities will be provided in special area classes.
The health and safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority. We want students and employees to feel comfortable and safe returning to school. We will focus on implementing CDC recommendations and we will inform you of our final decision by July 24th. We thank you for your time and patience but most importantly for trusting and choosing Burke Basic School to help educate your child.
Sincerely,
Mr. Mike Gaddie Return to School FAQs / Preguntas frecuentes sobre el regreso a la escuela

1. Do parents have an option to decide if their child goes online or in person? Yes, we will email parents an inquiry of the options on or before August 10th. Also, you may call the school and ask to speak with Mrs. Bello and notify her of your option. For your convenience you can also email her at
[email protected].
2. If we chose online classes, will Burke provide a chrome book? We are limited to the amount chrome books. However, we are giving priority to students who are on an IEP or English learners.
3. How will your child be graded? How will I know who my child’s teacher is? Your child’s teacher can explain his or her grading method during our virtual open house. He or she will be contacting you in the few weeks to set an appointment with you.
4. When will school start? August 17th
5. What learning management system will the school be using for online teaching? Google Classroom and ZOOM. (Google classroom helps students and teachers organize assignments, boost collaboration, and foster better communication.)
What is Burke preparing for?
We are preparing for three scenarios.
1. From the start date of school until the Governor allows school to hold in person classes, we will teach 100% online.
2. When our school can resume for in person classes, families may choose to return to campus or stay online through the rest of the semester.
3. If schools are required to close again, we will return to a full online model for 100% of our students.
Once again we thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare for this upcoming year. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call the school and ask for a meeting with Mrs. Bello.
