Good for kids
The trail is quite clear and easy to follow. It's a nice hike, winter or summer. (Recommend snow shoes and staying away from ravines in the winter). West of the bridge is the North Country Trail, East is The Manistee River Trail, both converge south and north to form a loop.

Went backpacking hair it was fun and enjoyed it had a good time lots of good campsites and water sources stayed two nights three days also went up north the North country Trail a little bit didn’t see much wildlife mostly people it was a little muddy if you go in the winter time make sure you have a Ice shoes of some sort well probably bring my family back at another time
Fall on the River Trail is a whole different experience. The footing can be tough in places after rain. The lack of bugs and summer heat increases your enjoyment however. The sweeping vistas from the trail are enhanced as the leaves drop. But enjoy the color tour while it lasts. Also note that in my long history with the trail I had never seen so many people present. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves and acting as stewards of our precious resource. Enjoy!!!
A Pure Michigan experience that is worth the Trek. Beautiful!! Hiking trails all around this area
Very fun and scenic way to cross Manistee River. Practical too, connects Manistee River trail with North Country Trail. Short easy walk from parking lot or part of a lengthy backpack trip. Rustic campground for tent or RV 3 mile hike away.
